ScaleUp… The Journey!

It all started one fateful evening, May 2023, when Ziad, the MD of Seven-Up Bottling Company, walked into the Marketing office for a quick chat with Segun, the GM of Marketing. After spending 17 years in Naija, Ziad has every reason to love this country. The Naija people fell in love with his authenticity. How does one describe this 'Oyinbo Man' who is quick to offer a hug, a listening ear, and a practical solution to any and every issue from all stakeholders? In brief, Ziad loves Naija and yes, Nigeria loves him back.

That evening, a spark ignited! A conversation began, fuelled by passion and a shared belief in the potential of Nigerian SMEs. Ziad's vision was clear: to create a platform to equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to succeed. Ziad's passion for Nigeria led him to create Scale-Up, a platform to empower local entrepreneurs. He pitched the idea to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, UNIDO. The body only needed to see the fire in his eyes and the passion in his heart to buy into the vision. Then he pitched this to Zenith Bank and First Bank, who, upon seeing his conviction, needed little or no time to be convinced to come aboard the Scale-Up Train.

On January 20th, 2024, over fifty carefully selected curated SME Owners in Nigeria gathered at SBC Ijora Theatre for the first-ever two-day edition of the Scale-Up workshop. The result was phenomenal! Beyond the bespoke, unique, and practical sessions that characterized the workshop, all participants confessed never having been in such a passionate, energetic, yet completely authentic training. 'Na Wa O' became a slogan for the entire room after nuggets of insights were shared.

Driven by his unwavering belief in the potential of Nigerian businesses, Ziad assembled a team of experts and forged strategic partnerships. Through workshops, mentorship, and networking opportunities, Scale-Up has emerged as a catalyst for growth in the Nigerian business landscape. The initiative has helped countless SMEs overcome challenges, expand their operations, and create jobs by providing tailored support and practical guidance. One key factor contributing to Scale-Up's success is its commitment to delivering world-class expertise. By learning from the best, SMEs gain invaluable perspectives and practical strategies, equipping them to navigate the complexities of the business world with confidence and preparedness.

Scale-Up also fosters a supportive community where entrepreneurs can connect, collaborate, and learn from each other. Through networking events and online forums, participants have the opportunity to build relationships, share experiences, and explore potential partnerships. This sense of camaraderie and shared purpose, where everyone is working towards the common goal of empowering Nigerian entrepreneurship, strengthens the entrepreneurial ecosystem and creates a more vibrant business environment.

As Scale-Up continues to expand its reach and impact, Ziad's vision of creating one million jobs by 2035 remains a driving force. With each new entrepreneur empowered and each business scaled, the initiative moves closer to realizing its ambitious goal. Scale-Up is not just a platform; it's a movement igniting the spark of Nigerian entrepreneurship and shaping the country's future.
